8/21/18 Update: Due to the rain, the water main replacement has been postponed for a day. Installation of main line will start Wednesday, August 22nd. Water service will be periodically interrupted between 7:30 A.M. and 10 A.M. to facilitate tying in the new line to the distribution system. Please plan accordingly for this interruption. Construction schedule can change due to weather and any unforeseen circumstances. Any changes will be posted here as soon as they are available.
8/24/18 Update: The contractor has completed work for the week. Progress has been delayed by conflicts with other utilities and an abandoned gas line. 340 feet of new main line has been installed and main line construction should be completed by Tuesday, August 28th.
8/28/18 Update: The contractor will complete the installation of main line today. The line will be filled and hydrostatically tested for leaks. Once that is complete it will be disinfected, and then bacteriological testing will be completed.
It is anticipated that once all the required testing is complete, the contractor will start swapping services to the new main starting after the Labor Day holiday on September 4th.
Water service to each customer will be interrupted for several hours while a new service line and curb stop are installed. The new service line will then be connected to the existing service line that runs into each property. The service line from the curb valve to your home is the customers responsibility. If a customer service line is found to be constructed of lead or is leaking it will not be hooked up until it is replaced by a plumber at the customers expense.
9/5/2018 Update: The contractor is currently swapping services to the new line, the process may take up to 4 hours per connection. Customers will be notified when their service will be interrupted. Once service is reinstated customers may experience higher pressure, air in the line and discolored water. All of these conditions can be corrected by flushing the water service line at a point nearest entry in to the house or an out-side hose bib.
9/12/18 UPDATE: The contractor has completed transferring service lines from the old to the new water main. On 9/13 they will be completing the final tie-in to the distribution system on Chestnut Street. During this time customers will experience an interruption of service lasting up to 6 hours. We anticipate the work to begin between 8 A.M. and 10 A.M. This is the final step to complete the water main replacement.
9/14/18 UPDATE: All water line construction on Charette Place has been completed. We are working with the contractor and the Borough of Sewickley on the restoration of the road and sidewalks. Parking restrictions have been lifted until the road and sidewalk restoration begins. Thank you for your patience during this project.
